| Customer Reviews: Very pleased September 20, 2009 Jazz Girl (philadelphia, pa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am surprised about how much trouble other people had with this item. I chose to receive it from my credit card company since I had to redeem some "points". So I did not pay anything. Now it's been about 4 years since I have this alarm clock and never had a problem. I don't have to worry if electricity gets cut of for even a few seconds, since this model does not need to be plugged in.I like the fact that I cannot see the screen in the dark, since that would be a distraction. I like that it shows me the day and the month and they are always correct since it's synchronizing with the atomic clock. Basically, I had a great experience with this alarm clock.
Great Alarm Clock August 12, 2008 BDRand (Des Moines, IA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a very good alarm clock, simple to set with bold time display. The time is always right as it is "radio adjusted". Only one flaw that I can see. The a.m./p.m. indicators on the alarm time are so tiny that they are very hard to discern. You could wind up making a critical 12 hour mistake ! Aside from that, we are very pleased with this clock.
A Piece Of Junk May 22, 2007 C. B. Forman (Wood Dale, IL United States) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I will never buy another Seiko product again!!
First of all, the display was very dim, even when the backlight was on. Second, when lying in bed at night, I couldn't read the display with the backlight on unless I lifted the back of the clock and tilted it toward me. Finally, I found that the alarm was starting to go off an hour early. I thought I was going crazy because the clock and the alarm times were set properly. The clock then went off again at the correct time.
So, during the daytime on weekend day I set the clock alarm for a time in the near future and waited to see what happened. Lo and behold, the hour number displayed flickered from time to time to next hour. I set the alarm accordingly and sure enough the clock went off an hour early!! (The clock was only 3 months old at the time.)
The clock had a 1-year warrantee so I contacted Amazon and they washed their hands of the deal referring me to Princeton Watches who actually sold the clock. Princeton of course passed the buck to Seiko. I contacted Seiko and they told me that they would fix or repair it. However, I would have to find box to ship it in. They wouldn't pay for the box or the shipping. They told me that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to return it to me. I asked if they could send me a replacement first if I gave them a charge account number which they could debit. When they got my broken one, they would credit it. Seiko wouldn't do that.
It just wasn't worth the further bother to fix. So, I threw the clock in the garbage, a $45+ mistake. I bought a nice Timex clock locally for less than two thirds the price.
Don't touch the auto clock! March 18, 2010 Sports Nut (El Cerrito, CA) So, we actually had two of these Seiko products. I have the tall model on my side, which works flawlessly! Only problem is it's a bit tall and can be easily knocked over while searching for in in the night or wee hours. It's the Seiko R-wave QHR001SLH. I thought I'd give my husband a clock with a lower profile for his side. And since I was so happy with the R-wave, I thought another Seiko would be the perfect choice. Well, the first one didn't keep time. At all. Unfortunately, my husband, being ever so faithful, never complained once. So, I had no idea. I took it back to the store a year later. They shipped it to Germany for repairs and after waiting about 3 months, gave up and gave me a new one. If you even touch the new clock to get the light to come on, it will revert back to Friday, January 1, 1999, 12:00 AM. So, forget using the alarm or any other features. It did reset with Standard time. Well, I've certainly learned my lesson on this one.
Evaluation of Seiko QHR008SLH bed side alarm clock June 21, 2008 Design Engineer (Missouri USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Serious design flaws make this alarm clock a waste of consumer money. Its high price implies quality but it's barely functional, although it does look good in print
The face cover is too reflective, acting like a mirror, so it's difficult to read in a lit room. Light coming through a window over my bed makes even the large numbers impossible to read. With my head on the pillow I had to rotate it to an odd angle to minimize the reflections and read it.
The LCD face has a limited viewing angle. I tested it on my night-stand with my head on the pillow. In a dark room, with its backlight on, the clock face was blank because of the viewing angle. I had to prop up on my elbow to see the time or tilt the clock with a 1 1/4 inch (3 cm.) thick book to put the face at a readable angle.
The snooze alarm only rings twice before it shuts off. The seconds display is distracting and the snooze on, alarm on, AM and PM logos are not easy to read.
Finally it is not an atomic clock. It contains a small radio receiver tuned to one station. Once a night it is synchronized to a station sending a signal from an atomic clock. All atomic clocks are really Radio Synchronized clocks. But, Atomic Clock looks good in print.
There are some good design features, but, the flaws overwhelm them.
